THE folk at the One-Concepts group are in a big hurry, rolling out F&B outlets in rapid-fire, assembly-line fashion.

Barely two months after unveiling its Tbone steakhouse in Tiong Bahru, it has opened Riverone, an Aussie-style cafe at The Quayside in Robertson Quay, and there are plans to follow up with a bar and a Thai restaurant concept in the same area later this year.

Riverone has a cool, relaxed vibe, with a large open kitchen taking up most of the interior space, while most of the tables are just outside, in a covered open-air terrace.

The marble counter top, stainless steel kitchen equipment and white brick walls give the space the desired shabby chic look, and the all-day menu is similarly laid-back, dialling up many of the usual comfort food favourites. A splurge at breakfast would entail ordering the "Hangover" ($20), comprising the works (sausages, bacon, eggs tomatoes, mushrooms and baked beans) on a pizza or toast base. A three-course set lunch ($18) is more toned down, with choices of burger, minute steak, quiche or fish and chips among the choices of mains, while there's also that perennial all-day favourite, the croque monsieur ($12.50). A la carte options include a slab of Aussie ribeye ($33), steak, Guinness and cheese pie ($18), Thai green chicken curry ($16.50) and cream-free spaghetti carbonara ($16.50). Most of the dishes sampled were reasonably authentic, if less-than-exciting.

"This is similar to the kind of food you might find in Sydney," says Permana Sigidprawiro, group head chef at One-Concepts. "We just want to offer a variety of international cuisine - a bit of everything. It's simple, basic food, authentic but not necessarily trendy."
