Girl group 2NE1's Sandara Park is furthering her acting career, taking up a lead role in a new Web drama produced by CJ E&M, the Korean entertainment giant said Thursday.
Based on a Webtoon of the same title, the drama, "We're Separated," will portray the country's younger generation battling with their unclear future through the story of an unmarried young couple who are driven to live together even after they are separated, the company said.
In the new series, Park will play No Wu-ri, a high-spirited college graduate who struggles to land a job against all odds. It is her second lead role after playing a girl with a unique personality who tries to mend her broken heart in the recently concluded Web drama "Dr. IAN."
Starring as her ex-boyfriend is boy band Winner's Kang Seung-yoon. He will play Ji Won-yeong, a vocalist of an indie band who works a part-time night job to earn a living.
The drama will also star model Kang Seung-hyun and model and actor Jang Gi-yong as the chief of a major record label's planning office and a common friend of the two lead characters, respectively.
"We're Separated" will be uploaded on CJ E&M's YouTube channel and the digital platforms of YG and its affiliate model agency, YG Kplus, starting in early June.
