KUALA LUMPUR - Drama actress Hanez Suraya Abdul Aziz has settled her suit against her former aide Mohd Fairus Mohd Lazim who allegedly defamed her on social media.
High Court judge Justice Hue Siew Kheng recorded the consent judgment between the parties in chambers yesterday.
Hanez Suraya's lead counsel Harjit Singh said the terms of settlement could not be disclosed as they were "confidential", and there was no order as to costs.
"My client is very pleased with the settlement of this suit. The judge is happy, too," he laughed.
In her suit, the 29-year-old actress claimed that Mohd Fairus had spread defamatory words by uploading tweets and photographs against her on Twitter and Instagram.
Hanez Suraya claimed that certain words had implied that she was snobbish, materialistic, immature and a hypocrite.
In her statement of claim filed last Nov 1, Hanez Suraya, who acted in the Love You Mr Arrogant drama aired on TV3, said Mohd Fairus, 29, started to work for her last July.
She claimed that she had taken Mohd Fairus on most of her work trips, locally and abroad, with all expenses paid by her.
Hanez Suraya, who was also an Aura White product ambassador, said early last September, she was told by the Aura White management that she would go to Hong Kong the following month and all costs would be borne by the company.
She felt that it would be proper for her to bring along her make-up artist rather than the defendant, as the former's service was much needed.
She claimed that upon returning from Jakarta in September, the defendant began coming late for work and instigating her against her friends.
Following that, she said, the defendant bad-mouthed her and uploaded her photographs on Twitter and Instagram.
Among others, Hanez Suraya sought damages and an injunction to prevent the defendant from repeating the libel.
