Ah Boy of the Year: Tosh Zhang

Ah Boy of the Year: Tosh Zhang

SINGAPORE- They dominated the local showbiz industry this year.

So much so that we decided to give these boys a category of their own - Ah Boy Of The Year.

It was a tough fight between the talented Tosh Zhang, smart-mouthed Wang Weiliang and good-looker Joshua Tan, the three actors who made it big after starring in Jack Neo's two-part Ah Boys To Men movies.

But 24-year-old Zhang proved that he was the Ah Boy to rule them all when he emerged champion, with an impressive 1,785 votes.

His on-screen army "brothers" Wang received 926 votes while Tan had 410 votes.

It is also the second consecutive year Zhang has won a Flame Award. Last year, he nabbed Breakout Star Of The Year.

"When I heard that I won this year, my first reaction was, 'Huh, really?' I was very surprised and happy because I didn't expect it. I am very thankful to my fans for always supporting me," Zhang told The New Paper.

"But like I said before, I feel that it is already a win for all three of us because TNP came up with a category just for us Ah Boys. It's very special and I feel like we are being recognised for our hard work and achievements this year."

It is obvious that the popular star, who has just finished filming for Neo's lion dance-themed movie The Lion Men, has a strong and ardent fan base.

And Zhang maintains a close relationship with his passionate fans by interacting with them on his personal Twitter page (@toshrock) regularly.

The vlogger-turned-actor said: "I start this hashtag #AskTosh whenever I am free and fans can ask me anything they want on Twitter. It's interesting to see what people want to find out about me. Sometimes, I get up to a few hundred questions (in the three hours I'm online)."

As for defeating his fellow Ah Boys, Zhang emphasised that there is no rivalry between them and added: "I'll treat them go makan!"
