The Supreme Court of India has ordered an end to the practice of barring women to work as make-up artistes and hairdressers in the Mumbai film industry.
The order, which came on Nov 9, will end a ban that lasted 60 years in the film industry.
Such discrimination continues to exist in other cities like Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. Those cases will be taken up in January next year.
