Bieber dream come true

Bieber dream come true

SINGAPORE - When student Sabrina Natasya Nor Azren was at Justin Bieber's My World Tour in 2011 in Singapore, she made a pact with her 12-year-old cousin that they would get to meet him in person some day.

That day will arrive next month.

Sabrina, a 16-year-old student at Bukit Batok Secondary School, is the winner of the ST Communities Ultimate Singapore Formula One Fan contest.

She will be able to bring a person with her to attend a meet-and-greet session with the Canadian pop singer at the F1 closing concert on Sept 23.

"I honestly don't know what I will do when I see him, I will probably be crying," said an elated Sabrina.

She also won a pair of tickets to the concert worth $296.

"I'm really glad because my cousin has now migrated to Australia and her parents have promised that she can fly here to meet him if I win," she added.

A total of 255 entries were submitted to the contest, which is part of The Straits Times Appreciates Readers (Star) programme.

Her winning entry to the ST Communities website is a video in which she chronicles an elaborate makeover that she undertook in order to end up looking like Justin Bieber, beating four other finalists.

She had also included some footage of herself celebrating the Canadian singer's 18th birthday last year with her friends in the video.

"I'll be a little shy but I'll try to tell him about it when I see him," said Sabrina, whose father is a police officer and her mother, a teacher.

She won the contest after securing a total of 1,408 out of 3,469 votes cast on the ST Communities website. Spam votes from the same location were not counted. The voting started on Monday and ended at midnight on Thursday.

Another 30 contestants, including the four shortlisted entries, will also each win a pair of tickets to the F1 closing concert. The Star programme is an initiative by The Straits Times to reach out to readers and the community.

On Thursday, two readers also won exclusive treats to the Singapore Grand Prix next month.

One winner received access to a drivers' autograph session and tickets to the exclusive Paddock Club for each of the three race nights, and the other won three-day The Green Room hospitality suite tickets and a pit lane experience. Another 15 readers each won a pair of Pit Grandstand tickets.
