The birth of a beauty queen

CHINA - In a glitzy and glamorous world, many young women aspire to become beauty queens after watching them grace the screens of their television sets.

These ladies dream of winning the prestigious title and wearing a sparkling crown but are unaware of the tough process of becoming a one.

Miss Universe, established in 1952, is one of the most well-known international beauty contests.

In September this year, 16 candidates underwent an intense training course for 10 weeks in preparation for Miss Universe China, where the winner would represent China in the international Miss Universe.

Training for these young women included lessons in conversational English, physical fitness training, personal grooming as well as etiquette classes.

After arduously training together for 10 weeks, the candidates became close friends and offered moral support to each other when dealing with the high expectations of the competition.

The young ladies emerged from their training poised and eloquent, charming judges and the audience with wit and charisma while elegantly dressed in evening gowns.

Miss Jin Ye from the Hubei province won the title of Miss Universe China and later took part in the international Miss Universe held in Moscow. She became one of the top 16 finalists and clinched the Miss Congeniality title.

Take a look at these behind-the-scenes photos which document the birth of a beauty queen in China.
