Our resident DJ/journo applauds Sinead O'Connor's recent return to sexiness

The upcoming movie Begin Again tells the story of an idealistic young musician, played by Keira Knightley, who is taken under the wing of Mark Ruffalo's jaded old producer.

When he introduces himself after seeing her perform in a bar, he tells her that her talent and her looks could take her to the top.

She replies: "What do my looks have to do with my music?"

It's the single dumbest thing I've ever heard a movie character say, and I'm an Adam Sandler fan. Looks have everything to do with pop music.

Witness the recent resurgence of Sinead O'Connor.

The 47-year-old Irish singer-songwriter, and mother of four, has been getting a lot of press recently.

A couple weeks back, she released the album cover for her upcoming I'm Not Bossy, I'm The Boss, out in August, and she looks amazing.

Dressed like a vampire who sucks the blood from guitars, she sports a black bob wig, gobs of mascara and a skin-tight PVC gown.

She looks like she belongs in an Underworld movie, maybe playing Kate Beckinsale's sexy older sister.

Anyway, everyone's been talking about it.

O'Connor has been practically invisible for the past 20 years, and before her recent transformation, she had really let herself go.

In fact, the only real attention she has had over the past few years was when people started posting frumpy pictures of her, and then she wrote a column in an Irish newspaper about how she was desperate for sex and love. It was all very sad, and made many of us feel very old.

O'Connor was a stunner in the early 90s with her hit Nothing Compares 2 U, and it was shocking to see her transform into a middle-aged woman.

Well, now she's a stunner once again, and something tells me she'll be getting all the male attention she can handle.

Many have complained that her CD cover has been Photoshopped, but recent pictures of her reveal that she has had lost a lot of weight.

She's putting more time and effort into her looks, and it's going to be a big help career-wise.

The cover for Take Me To Church, her first single from her new album, is even more outlandishly sexy.

She's got an auburn wig and UNBELIEVABLE legs.

The song itself (incidently) is very good, a driving rock number that puts many younger artists to shame.

Listen, there's absolutely nothing wrong with not being pretty. God knows I've never had the luxury of relying on my looks.

Unfortunately, pop stars are held to different standards. They are our mini gods and goddesses.

If you want to be put on a pedestal, you have to look the part.
