Britney Spears announces Asian dates, could play in Singapore

American pop star Britney Spears has announced several Asian dates in June, including Hong Kong on June 27, and there is a high chance that the tour will include a stop in Singapore.

The Straits Times understands that there are promoters here working on staging her concert here.

Besides Hong Kong, Spears' other Asian dates are June 3, 4 and 6 in Japan and June 15 in the Philippines. So if there is a Singapore show, it would likely happen close to those dates.

In June, the two venues here who could a concert by a major star such as Spears look to be quite free.

The Singapore Indoor Stadium will host concerts by British rock veteran Sting on May 28 and Taiwanese star A-Mei on June 9 and 10, as well as sports events UFC Fight Night Singapore on June 17 and WWE Live Singapore on June 28. The National Stadium's calendar looks free in June. A concert by Spears could certainly fit into either of the two venues' schedules in that month.

If the show is confirmed, it will be the first time that the singer, recognised as one of the best-selling artists of all time, will do a full concert in Singapore.

Best known formassive pop hits such as ...Baby One More Time (1998), Oops!... I Did It Again (2000) and Womanizer (2008), Spears released her ninth and most recent album, Glory, last year. The album went to the top three on the US and British charts while music magazine Rolling Stone ranked it the fifth best pop album of the year.
