A report on Cecilia Cheung's death has been revealed to be a hoax.
According to Hong Kong media, the article surfaced online last week, just as her ex-husband Nicholas Tse and former flame Faye Wong were snapped holding hands in public for the first time after 14 years.
The false report ,which was carried on a Chinese news site on Saturday, contained shocking details about "an actress with the last name Cheung", who "fell from the 24th floor of Hong Kong's Mandarin Oriental hotel". It also included details of a suicide note which said she was plagued by emotional problems and how she "could not forget Nicholas Tse".
The article was accompanied by a black-and-white photo of the 34-year-old actress, with the text "1980-2014".
However, the news was revealed to be a hoax on Sunday after Hong Kong reporters managed to contact Cheung's manager, who assured the media that the actress was alive and well.
The site has since removed the article and apologised for the error.
According to news blog Mediamass, a Facebook page called "R.I.P. Cecilia Cheung" was created last week, which attracted nearly one million 'likes'.
The post allegedly read: "At about 11 a.m. ET on Saturday (December 6, 2014), our beloved actress Cecilia Cheung passed away. Cecilia Cheung was born on May 24, 1980 in Hong Kong. She will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."
