Chen Tianwen's Unbelievable song leaving netizens 'stunned like vegetable'

SINGAPORE - "Un...un...un...un..unbelievable, that's what you are...Come be my coffee table and I'll be your sofa."

That's how the latest "Internet darling" song starts.

Sung by local actor Chen Tianwen for the latest season of TV comedy Spouse For House on Channel 5, the video has been viewed close to half a million times on Facebook after it was released yesterday (April 15).

Chen goes on in the video to serenade his love with "please be the metal cable to my cable car", and "you blossom like a flower, I so stunned like vegetable".

If you're thinking that the song is sung to the tune of Western classic Unforgettable (by Nat King Cole), then you'd be surprised to discover that it's sung to 1970s Mando-pop style.

The Straits Times, saying that the song has gone "viral", reported that Chen was instructed to model his singing style (and probably his wardrobe) after 1970s Mandarin pop king Huang Qingyuan, known for his sorrowful voice.

Spouse For House, into its third season, stars Alaric Tay and Hong Kong star Selena Li. Mediacorp, in its posting on Facebook, asks viewers to look out for another "special music video" in the show tomorrow at 10pm.
