Choice of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman falls flat

Choice of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman falls flat

Let's talk about boob size.

Wonder Woman's, specifically.

It might seem a trivial or inappropriate topic, but actually, it is very important.

Generally speaking, I couldn't care less about the size of a woman's boobs. Big, small, medium - doesn't matter.

But when it comes to iconic comic book superheroine Wonder Woman, I feel rather strongly that size does matter, which is why I'm completely flummoxed over the recent casting of Gal Gadot as the Amazonian princess in director Zack Snyder's new 2015 Man Of Steel sequel.

The movie, tentatively titled Batman vs Superman, will see Wonder Woman appear opposite Ben Affleck's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman.

Snyder said in a statement: "Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favourite in the DC Universe.

"Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role."

We're still unsure what that "magical quality" is. The 28-year-old Israeli former model and beauty queen is a stunningly beautiful girl, but she has the body of a typical model, which is to say the body of a 12-year-old boy.

You probably don't recognise Gadot because her only notable role to date has been in the Fast & Furious flicks.

She appeared in the last three instalments as a supporting character named Gisele, a sexy exotic who is part of Vin Diesel's crew.

Glaring lack of any substantial acting experience aside, watching her in those films, I never dreamed I was looking at the next Wonder Woman - because she has no boobs.

CLEAVAGE AND CURVES

Those of us who grew up in the 1970s will forever have the image of Lynda Carter's cleavage and curves seared into our brains.

She starred in the TV version of Wonder Woman from 1975 to 1979, and wow, did she fill out her bustier.

At this point, I'm aware I sound like a complete perv. But really, this isn't about sexiness as much as it is about womanliness.

Of course, women and their mammaries come in all shapes and sizes. But at the same time, a large female bosom has a power and potency that goes beyond simple biological functionality.

There's something motherly about Lynda Carter. She looks like she would offer comfort and protection.

She looks like she would be so nice to hug! Some are saying they want a Wonder Woman who looks like she could fight, but that's not what Wonder Woman is about.

She is about doing what is right.

She carries a Lasso of Truth, not an AK-47. She flies an invisible jet, not an Apache helicopter.

NOT A 'BAD-ASS'

She's more than capable of protecting herself and us, but she's not a "bad-ass" like The Punisher or something.

She's the fantasy mummy for the toddler inside all us comic book nerds. I want her to look like an archetypal mummy, not an archetypal Victoria's Secret model.

I am sure Gadot will do fine and we will all end up loving her, but I will always miss the way the 70s jiggled.
