SINGAPORE - Chinese star Huang Xiao Ming made his name in TV shows, appearing in series like The Return Of The Condor Heroes (2006). But, lately, he's been concentrating on movies.
The 35-year-old appeared in The Last Tycoon (2012), alongside Hong Kong actor Chow Yun Fat. He spoke recently on why it was a career highlight.
What was the best part about working on The Last Tycoon?
Working with Chow. He taught me a lot about acting... Because of him, I became motivated to learn more and progress (as an actor).
I played the younger version of Chow's character in the film. We couldn't play the role too similarly, so I discussed (the issue) quite a lot with him. He always told me to relax.
Are you two still in touch?
Yes, when my foot was seriously hurt (after a fracture last November), Chow would call me up and chat with me, as I am his apprentice. (Laughs)
Have you recovered from that injury?
It's almost recovered. I am considering (this period of recovery) as a break.
Not only have I had time to chat with my parents and watch TV at home, but I've also evaluated what I have done so far and planned what to do in the future.
The Last Tycoon will air on Sunday at 9pm on Celestial Movies (Starhub Ch 868 and mioTV Ch 585).
