Depp confirms his engagement with ring

Beijing - Johnny Depp confirmed rumours of his engagement to actress Amber Heard by showing off what he calls a "chick's ring" on his hand.

The Associated Press reported that the actor was asked on Monday if the ring he was wearing confirmed months of rumours that he was engaged.

"The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle," replied Depp, 50, who is known for his eccentric fashion style.

He laughed as he lifted up his left hand, which showed a single diamond on a band around his ring finger, reported AP.

"I think that I would be better at making women's shoes than I would be at wedding planning, I can't plan anything. I'm really bad at that stuff," added Depp, who also showed off his tattoos at the press conference.

He was in Beijing to promote his new movie, Transcendence, in which he plays a terminally ill scientist who downloads his mind into a computer in the sci-fi drama that asks: What if we could upload a human mind into a computer?

The movie also stars Rebecca Hall and Morgan Freeman.

China is the only inter- national stop he is making to promote the film, according to AP. It opens in China on April 18, the same day as the United States release. It opens in Singapore on April 17.

In January, Us Weekly reported that Depp had proposed to his Rum Diaries co-star Heard after nearly two years of dating. Last month, they held an engagement party in Los Angeles.

He and Heard, 27, went public with their relationship in June 2012, shortly after he announced his split from his partner of 14 years, French model-singer Vanessa Paradis. They have two children, Lily-Rose, 14, and Jack, 11, but never married.
