KUALA LUMPUR - In a twist of events, drama actress Hanez Suraya Abdul Aziz failed to reach a settlement with her former aide for allegedly defaming her on social media.
The mediation process between the parties before judge Zainal L. Salleh did not manage to resolve the dispute.
The actress' lawyer Harjit Singh said the case would now go to trial in the court.
"We are not agreeable to the terms of settlement," he said after the parties met the judge at the Mediation Centre here.
He said High Court judge Justice Hue Siew Kheng would on April 17 hear an application by Hanez Suraya's former aide Mohd Fairus Mohd Lazim to set aside a judgment in default obtained by the actress when he did not file his defence.
He said the court had set the same day for assessment of damages.
In her suit, the 29-year-old actress claimed that Mohd Fairus had been spreading defamatory words by uploading tweets and photographs of her on Twitter and via Instagram.
Hanez Suraya, who acted in the Love You Mr. Arrogant drama aired on TV3, claimed that certain words had implied that she was snobbish, materialistic, hypocritical and an immature actress.
