MALAYSIA - Three Era FM deejays have apologised for saying the Sarawak football team's unbeaten Premier League record was because it was playing in a "cap ayam" league.
Kosmo! reported that Johan, Haniff and Ray apologised on their Monday morning JoHaRa Pagi Era segment for their remarks which were made when Sarawak lost 1-2 to Perak in the Malaysia Cup Group D match last Tuesday.
"We humbly apologise for our blunder. This apology is from the bottom of our hearts," said Johan, whose real name is Mohd Yazid Lim Mohamad Aziz.
Haniff, whose full name is Haniff Hamzah, explained that there was no malice intended.
"We truly never had any intention to hurt the feelings of those who support the Sarawak FA," he said.
Fellow deejay Ray, whose real name is Shah Reza Mohd Shah, said the trio were big fans of Malaysia's Premier League.
Astro Radio Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Dr Jake Abdullah had told the deejays to apologise to the Premier League champions and fans.
They drew the ire of the public as "cap ayam", literally meaning "chicken brand", is a colloquial term to refer to something of low quality.
Last Saturday, Sarawak defeated Super League champion Lions XII 2-1 in Kuching.
PBB Youth vice-chief Pandi Suhaili said Sarawakians were ready to forgive Johan, Haniff and Ray but their words could not be easily forgotten.
