The actress, who is of Dominican, Saint Lucian and English descent, is best known as translator Missandei, the right-hand woman of formidable queen of armies Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), in the popular TV series Game Of Thrones. She has played the role since 2013.
The 26-year-old is making her crossover to the silver screen in Fast & Furious 7, which opens here tomorrow.
Emmanuel plays Ramsey, a hacker whose latest technological masterpiece, known as God's Eye, is the key for Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) to track down the elusive Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham), who's seeking revenge against Dominic and his family for the death of his brother Owen (Luke Evans).
Emmanuel was very nervous on her first day on set - she "hyperventilated" in her trailer before being introduced to the cast which included Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson.
"The first day was so overwhelming," she told UK movie website HeyUGuys.
"I was so scared being the new girl and was worried about fitting in, but it turned out that everyone was so chill and very friendly.
"They took me in and said, 'You're one of us now.' They embraced me so warmly."
Fast & Furious 7 also serves as a tribute to the late Walker, who was a cornerstone of the franchise.
Emmanuel told entertainment website Salon that returning to filming following Walker's death in a 3013 high-speed car crash was tough.
"Paul was a wonderful man, a lovely, considerate guy. Just the most down-to-earth actor you'd ever meet for the huge movie star he was.
"I feel blessed that I got to work with him even if it was for a very short time. I'm really excited to celebrate him as well with the finished piece."
Being able to do some of the adrenaline-pumping stunts in Fast & Furious 7 was extremely fun, said Emmanuel.
"One day, Vin and I were in the off-road Charger and they were shaking us left and right, tumbling up and down.
"All day it was like that until our last shot, where we spun around three times. I realised quickly that it was my limit. I felt like I had to vomit but I didn't."
While Emmanuel has the upcoming fifth season of Game Of Thrones to keep her fans happy, she is also getting ready for her next big-screen outing, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (opening here on Sept 17), the sequel to last year's sleeper hit The Maze Runner.
