1. HOUSE OF MOUSE
Thorne, who has Cuban and Italian-Irish ancestry, was a child model before getting bit parts in various US TV series such as The O.C., Dirty Sexy Money and Wizards Of Waverly Place. But it wasn't until she scored a lead part in Disney Channel's Shake It Up!, which ran for three years, that she became a regular on red carpets. She also started amassing a huge following who call themselves Bellarinas or Bellarinos.
Besides modelling and acting, the 17-year-old recently released her debut solo EP called Jersey and became a published author last month. Her book, Autumn Falls, is the first of a trilogy of young adult novels, inspired by Thorne's life, and covers subjects such as coping with the death of her father and overcoming dyslexia. "I want people to think, 'Wow, this girl isn't just the Disney Channel girl'," Thorne told Us magazine. "I really hope people see that I'm a girl who has been through a lot of stuff and is still standing strong, still here."
3. SECOND BIG-SCREEN OUTING
Thorne's first proper movie was playing Adam Sandler's tomboy daughter in Blended earlier this year. Her follow-up Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which opens here tomorrow, also stars Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner. The family film revolves around the titular Alexander (Ed Oxenbould), who, after experiencing a very bad day, wishes his parents Ben (Carell) and Kelly (Garner), elder brother Anthony (Dylan Minnette) and sister Emily (Kerris Dorsey) have a bad day too, not knowing that his wish would come true.
Thorne plays Celia, Anthony's on-off girlfriend.
4. TERRIBLE DAY ON SET
Thorne had her own "no good, very bad day" on set. "Everybody knows I don't have boobs. They're finally growing, but (this movie was filmed) before they were growing," she told Sugarscape website, adding that the costume department put padding in her bra. "It slipped down through my outfit and (fell) on the floor. The director (Miguel Arteta) picked it up and said 'Bella, I think these are your boobs.' It was so awkward and everyone was kind of chuckling."
5. HORRIBLE TRAGEDY
Thorne told Us magazine that the worst day of her life was when her father died in a car accident. She was nine years old.
"I couldn't cry when I found out. It was very odd. You're still in a state of shock, I think.
"There are times where I'm just like, 'Oh, that light post looks nice. I wonder if Daddy would like that light post.' And then, all of a sudden, I realise I'm crying..."
She added that "every day is a good day when I wake up and have my family".
