Singaporean singer JJ Lin finally bags Taiwan award

For three years, he sat in the audience, quietly confident that he would be named the Best Mandarin Male Singer at Taiwan's annual Golden Melody Awards.

But it did not happen.

Last night, Singaporean singer-songwriter JJ Lin finally got his chance to pick up the award at the Taipei Arena.

An ecstatic Lin said: "For four years, people have been telling me, 'It's definitely you. Congratulations.'

"Tonight, as I was sitting down there, I told myself not to be too happy."

Lin, 33, also thanked "everyone who has been a part of my music journey".

But another local singer-songwriter, Tanya Chua, 39, did not get her fourth award.

The record three-time Best Mandarin Female Singer lost to Malaysia's Penny Tai.
