A Hong Kong comedy starring veteran actor Chapman To and singer-actress Charlene Choi, The Midas Touch explores the challenges faced by two artist managers when they try to launch the careers of a group of wannabe pop starlets.
To plays former debt collector Chiu, who believes he is able to turn the girls into popular female idols. When he fails, he hires experienced manager Suen (Choi) to help him.
To is, as usual, hilarious, with his exaggerated acting antics, while Choi portrays an arrogant talent manager convincingly.
Yet the plot centres on the group of wannabes with their sub-par contrived acting and below-than-average looks.
The highlight of the film comes when handsome Hong Kong actor Nicholas Tse shows up for five minutes as himself.
