GCMA rocks Putra Stadium

KUALA LUMPUR - The 13th Global Chinese Music Awards (GCMA2013) was a star-studded show which rocked Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.

Homegrown stars Gary Chaw, Penny Tai, Michael Wong and Cheryl Lee graced the event along with Hong Kong artistes Joey Yung, Raymond Lam, Gillian Chung, Charlene Choi and Taiwanese singers Will Pan, Weibird and IO Band.

French car brand Peugeot brought the celebrities in with its 508 GT, 508 Premium and 408 Turbo models.

The audience were wowed by the likes of Malaysian artistes including Shila Amzah, Crystal Lee and Dennis Lau, who performed in the opening acts.

The theme of the event was punk fantasy.

Taiwanese girl group S.H.E was named Most Popular Group while the Most Popular Band award went to Taiwanese boybands Mayday, IO Band and Magic Power.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Kay Tse and Malaysia's Isaac Dang were recipients of the Best Dressed awards.

The event yesterday was hosted by local Chinese radio station 988 whose presenters May, Yinyin, Sam and Haumin also served as emcees for the night.

The GCMA was first introduced in 2000 with seven affiliate Asian radio stations from Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia taking turns to host the glitzy event.

988 is hosting the show for the second time; it first hosted the GCMA in 2005.
