SINGAPORE - Do not Google 'ring avulsion'.
This was the advice late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon gave to audiences on his eponymous show, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, after he nearly ripped his ring finger off when tripping over a carpet.
The American comedian's ring was caught on a counter-top as he fell at home which yanked his ring finger in the process.
"I tripped and fell, and I caught my fall," Mr Fallon explained. "As I'm getting up, my finger is sideways."
As it turns out, such incidents happen quite frequently. Hospital staff immediately recognised Mr Fallon's 'broken finger' as a ring avulsion.
The 41-year-old talk show host had to be hospitalised in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 10 days after six hours of microsurgery.
It will require another eight weeks before any sense of feeling will return to his ring finger, Mr Fallon added.
And in staying true to his roots, Jimmy Fallon's fall was comedic. "I'm a comedian, so I have to fall funny," he said to sidekick and announcer Steve Higgins.
"If it were me watching me [fall], I would laugh."
"Until you saw the ring avulsion," Mr Higgins said, as the audience broke into laughter.
Despite the advice not to google the words, the unfortunate term hit the top of Google Singapore's trending searches chart on Wednesday. Ouch.
