KUALA LUMPUR - A successful Permata Seni concert held in Beijing during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's recent official visit to the country will be reproduced for Malaysians from June 20 till June 22.
Permata patron and the Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said the special performance entitled Friendship Across Generations received a standing ovation when it was initially held at the Beijing National Museum auditorium, on May 28.
"The performance marking 40 years of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and the Republic of China was well received with wide coverage in a major newspaper in China," said Rosmah.
She said the Tourism Ministry had agreed for the concert to be held at Istana Budaya free of charge - especially for the young.
"It's very important that we have this. We want to remind the younger generation how relations began.
"We don't want them to take things for granted," she said.
She said the Beijing performance included 120 young Malaysians along with 60 performers from the Beijing Students Golden Sail Art Troupe.
"Arts and culture became a platform for a strong friendship and the performance was more meaningful because it was presented by the younger generation from both nations," she said.
However the upcoming local concerts will only feature local talent from Permata Seni.
The 90 minute performance depicts the arrival of the first Chinese traders to Malacca and the decision by Najib's father, Malaysia's second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein to establish ties with Communist China in 1974.
Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said the young performers worked so hard and its a waste for them to have only one performance.
A total of 1,300 tickets will be available for each of the three performances.
Tickets can be collected at the Istana Budaya Box Office counters from June 18 from 9am till 4pm.
