Harian Metro reported that local celebrity Wardina Saffiyah Fardullah Wilmot had been chided by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim for her Instagram posting accusing authorities of neglecting the country's disabled community.

Describing the statement as baseless, Rohani said the welfare authorities were equally concerned about the plight of the disabled, including that of 15-year-old Muhammad Firdaus Dullah, who was found neglected and emaciated among faeces in a flat last week.

"The discovery of Muhammad Firduas, who is suffering from cerebral palsy, was made by Negri Sembilan Welfare Department director Faizal Fazri Othman, who is representative of the Government," she said, adding that help was extended to the disabled teen.

In her posting, the actress and TV host had accused local welfare authorities of neglecting the disabled unlike those in Australia, where aid was channelled to the child's parents, including requesting them to quit their jobs to provide better care.

The boy's mother had not sought help from authorities nor was there any report lodged by neighbours or family members, said Rohani.
