KUALA LUMPUR - The organiser and partners of the highly-anticipated musical Mamma Mia! came together to do charity by pledging tickets to shelter homes in the Klang Valley.
As part of a joint commitment to corporate social responsibility, event organiser Yvents! Sdn Bhd joined forces with its key sponsors and partners to pledge RM120,000 (S$47,000) in tickets for the popular musical.
Mamma Mia!'s partners are Maybank, KSK Group, official TV station NTV7 and hotel, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur while The Star is the official media partner.
"It's important to be able to extend a helping hand to the underprivileged," said Yvents! managing director Yvette Kang.
"And, I think it's a nice gesture from us and all our partners to be able to bring as many people from all walks of life to the show."
The pledge was announced at the Yvents office here yesterday.
Among the beneficiaries are the Shelter Home for Children Petaling Jaya, House of Joy Puchong, Yayasan Chow Kit, Yayasan Sunbeam, Dignity for Children, Right to Learn Project, Living Hope Malaysia and the Agathians Shelter.
"We hope that the pledge will give the children in these homes the privilege of watching Mamma Mia, which is one of the most well-known musicals in the world," said Malayan Banking Bhd executive vice-president and head of cards marketing Marlin A. Nordin.
The pledge, she added, was also in support of the performing arts.
"Mamma Mia! is about family," said KSK Group Bhd executive director Cindy Kua. "We hope that the kids will be able to come and enjoy the show and take back family values from it."
With a stellar cast and crew of over 60 people from London, Mamma Mia! will feature immensely popular ABBA songs such as Dancing Queen, Í have A Dream and Super Trouper.
Mamma Mia! The Musical will be staged at the Plenary Hall, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, from Dec 18 to 21.
It is organised by Yvents! and presented by Maybank with Star Publications (M) Bhd as the media partner.
