DJ Mike Kasem yesterday said he was relieved to learn that his famous dad has been found in the state of Washington.
The Class 95FM DJ spoke to Life! shortly after California police said they have found Casey Kasem, days after the aged radio icon went missing from a hospital in Santa Monica where he was convalescing.
A Santa Monica police spokesman told the New York Daily News that Kasem was found and "was somewhere in the Pacific Northwest".
His disappearance came in the midst of a reported feud between Mike's siblings and their stepmother Jean Kasem over visitation and caretaking of Kasem, who is well known for his American Top 40 weekly countdown shows.
The 82-year-old is reportedly suffering from a form of dementia called Lewy Body Disease, a progressive disease that has left him barely able to speak and he needs to be fed through a feeding tube.
Yesterday, Mike, who is born in the United States, told Life! he had spoken to his sisters about their dad, and said he could not wait to get him back into the care of those who love him.
Reportedly, his siblings had not seen their dad since May 6. Mike's sister Kerri had filed a missing person's report with Santa Monica police on Wednesday, after she won temporary conservatorship over her dad two days earlier.
She had told the media earlier that she suspected her stepmother had removed the radio icon from his hospital and likely taken him to an Indian reservation in Washington.
Mike told Life! on Wednesday about how they had been estranged from Jean over the years. He said she never wanted them to be involved in their dad's life and that he wound up being able to see him for only a few hours a year under a visitation agreement he signed with Jean.
A statement released by the Kasem siblings yesterday said: "The family has grave concerns about his health and look forward to bringing him home.
"We are grateful to the local authorities for finding our dad. We are one step closer to bringing him home."
Kerri, 41, and Mike, 40, are among three children their father had with first wife Linda Myers. Kasem and Myers were married for seven years before divorcing in 1979.
