It's a cliched term that gets thrown around a lot by aspiring showbiz wannabes.
But few have actually managed to pull off the herculean feat of multitasking - unlike the enigma that's Ryan Tedder.
The 34-year-old frontman of Colorado springs pop rockers OneRepublic ticks all the boxes for a perfect superstar - matinee idol looks, impeccably coiffed hair, the ability to pen chart-topping hits and a nurturing attitude towards newcomers. Of course, there's also his unmistakably smooth, soulful voice behind OneRepublic's tracks like Apologise, Stop and Stare, Secrets and Counting Stars.
Ahead of the US quintet's upcoming concert here at the end of the month, M looks at why girls love Tedder, and why boys want to be like him.
When he's not fronting OneRepublic, Tedder is literally a music-making machine for A-listers, with a knack for penning punchy pop hooks.
Songs he has produced and written include Adele's Rumour Has It, Beyonce's Halo, Leona Lewis Bleeding Love and Kelly Clarkson's Already Gone.
And just to show how naturally talented he is, he creates all these melodies without breaking a sweat.
"To be honest, it's like playing video games for me. I'm staring at a (digital-audio software) Pro Tools screen, moving around sounds and samples," he told New Zealand-based news site Stuff.
To Tedder, inspiration is everywhere. "With iPhones, nobody has an excuse for writer's block. If you're at (supermarket) whole foods getting your green tea extract and you have a melody, you just drop it into your voice memo and save it for later," he told The Hollywood Reporter.
