Netizen combines Monkey King and Lord of the Rings

It is a case of Chinese fantasy meeting Western fantasy.

A user on Weibo has cleverly used Photoshop to superimpose characters from the Chinese classic novel "Journey to the West" into scenes from popular fantasy films "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit", reported Shanghaiist.

Hence, in the pictures that have been widely shared, we see characters like the Monkey King (Sun Wu Kong) and Pigsy (Zhu Bajie) alongside "Lord of the Rings" favourites Gandalf and Gollum.

"Journey to the West", first published in the 16th century, is considered one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature.

Meanwhile, "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" was originally written by British novelist J.R.R. Tolkien. Recent adaptations of both novels by director Peter Jackson have garnered massive critical and box office success worldwide.

Earlier this year, the same Weibo user was also behind another viral photo set, where he gave the superheroes from The Avengers some Chinese-inspired costumes and colours.
