No more sexy scenes because of girlfriend

No more sexy scenes because of girlfriend

Hong Kong actor-singer Jason Chan, who has filmed his fair share of sex scenes in racy films such as Lan Kwai Fong and the upcoming television drama Sexpedia, will be steering clear of raunchy sex scenes.

He is doing it because of his girlfriend, Hong Kong actress-model Leanne Fu, 29, whom he plans to marry "in a few years' time".

He is not worried about being typecast as an actor in raunchy films, but says he hopes to steer clear of intense on-screen intimacy in future.

He says he is putting himself in his girlfriend's shoes and adds: "If the roles were reversed and she was the one doing a sex scene, I would not disapprove but I wouldn't like it."

That could explain his tamer choice of projects this year. Besides Sexpedia, he has acted in the Cantonese musical drama Once Upon A Song and is working on a new album to be released in June.

Despite its risque-sounding title, Sexpedia is actually quite mild and perhaps, even educational. The plot revolves around patients seeking medical treatment for sexual problems. One of the patients is Chan's virgin character, who fears that he will be impotent after having sex for the first time.

Elsewhere, couples shyly listen to a sex toy shop owner explain how the devices can spice up their sex life and in other scenes, a sex doctor explains medical conditions and dispenses advice.

There has been much buzz over the drama, which combines sex education and entertainment - a first for a TV drama in Hong Kong, says Chan.

"Everyone seems to be eager to watch it," he adds. "I think the reaction is going to be positive."

The Hong Kong-born, Canada-raised artist started out as a singer in 2007 before getting into acting. He has acted in romantic film Love is Elsewhere (2008) and had bit roles in TVB dramas such as Dressage To Win ( 2008).

But it was only after starring in the first and third instalments of nightlife-themed movies Lan Kwai Fong (2011, 2014) that he got more attention.

Sexpedia is nothing compared to the Lan Kwai Fong movies in the raunch department, where he plays one of the many promiscuous young Hong Kongers who throng the popular Lan Kwai Fong nightlife district.

He recalls: "I've not shot anything so intimate before Lan Kwai Fong. It was embarrassing during the filming. Everyone was staring. I was afraid of touching the actress."

Sexpedia premieres on Monday at 10pm on cHK (Singtel TV Channel 510). It airs on weekdays at 10pm.
