Other celebs carrying on the twerk after Miley falls ill

SINGAPORE - After her raunchy performance at last year's MTV Video Music Awards alongside Robin Thicke, Miley Cyrus became synonymous with the act of twerking. But all that bum action has been put on hold after the 21-year-old US singer and twerking queen fell sick earlier this month and was hospitalised following a severe allergic reaction to medication.

POSTPONED

She has since been forced to postpone her remaining US, Amsterdam and Antwerp Bangerz concert tour dates.

With Cyrus down, others have taken it upon themselves to take over her twerking duties in their own ways. Here are the latest celebrity twerkers who are giving Cyrus a run for her money.

SOUTH KOREAN DANCE GROUP WAVEYA

Here's an instant way to take the "class" out of classical music.

Step 1: Get five cutesy-looking and scantily-clad South Korean sexpots to shake their bums throughout an entire song.

Step 2: Make a video out of it to draw interest towards the genre.

That is exactly what B-Classic, a Belgian festival promoting classical music, did.

In a promotional video which has gained over two million views on YouTube, the girls of South Korean dance group Waveya turned up the heat as they gyrated to Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9.

At the end of the video, a message pops up on screen to tell viewers that they had just listened to three minutes of classical music.

Let's be honest - the music barely registered, but the images sure stuck.

MELANIE B

For others, twerking is a sexy workout to get their butts in shape.

Just ask former Spice Girl and America's Got Talent judge Melanie Brown (aka Mel B).

The 38-year-old English singer was seen in an Instagram video with her bum shaking during an exercise routine, which probably explains her hot bod and firm posterior.

US WINTER OLYMPIANS

US luger Kate Hansen, who finished in 10th place at this year's 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, pushed the bar when she twerked with US bobsledder Jazmine Fenlatorin in the presence of US President Barack Obama. During the competition, Hansen was already known for her unique dance moves.

Clips of her groovy warm-up routine to a "strictly Beyonce" playlist and twerking act with a teammate's medal quickly went viral in February.

On April 3, she unleashed those moves again during a visit to the White House with the US Winter Olympics and Paralympics teams.

On the lawn, the 21-year-old played "twerkee" a la Robin Thicke at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, as Fenlator, 28, playfully twerked against her.

NICKI MINAJ

Last week, we learnt that Minaj's very solid bum can indeed fill up the entire square frame of an Instagram post (left).

The 31-year-old US rapper posted a video of her booty as she grinded to what was thought to be a preview of her latest music release.

She quickly shot down that rumour in a Twitter post and later insisted she was "whining", not twerking.

Minaj told US radio DJ-host Ryan Seacrest: "We've got to stop using that word. That is not a twerking video. That is a whining video. I'm from Trinidad, we whine. We don't twerk in Trinidad… you're whining your hips."
