Party all day long

Party all day long

On April 4, Singapore revellers will be in for a special night.

For the first time, 50 of Singapore's top DJs will gather to spin for The New Paper Party at Kallang Wave, an SPH event.

Kallang Wave Mall will be transformed from shop floor to dance floor for the mega dance party held from noon to midnight.

Big names like James Van Carlos, DJ Deepak and GemStarr will be coming together under one roof while partygoers groove against the backdrop of a setting sun.

GemStarr (right), 32, the owner of DJ school Ministry of DJs, is excited to be part of the line-up.

"I'm definitely looking forward to the party, it's going to be awesome," said the DJ who has played at Zirca, DXO, Fenix Room, dbl O and Playhouse.

GemStarr, who has been a DJ for 12 years, said The New Paper Party at Kallang Wave will be a very special event, unlike any he has been part of.

"It's a rare occasion to have so many local DJs performing in the same place at one time.

"I'm very honoured to be one of them."

Jig Asia Entertainment director Cash Tan, 32, who is in charge of the DJ line-up, said: "As a former dancer, I know how difficult it is for local artists to find a stage to display their talent.

"With SG50 coming up, I thought having 50 local DJs would be a good way to celebrate."

The New Paper Party at Kallang Wave will be Singapore's first party to be held in a mall - and a huge one at that, with 5,000 expected guests.

Kallang Wave Mall is the official sponsor for the event, along with official smartphone partner Oppo.

Also among the 50 DJs performing is DJ JamzZ, who sees the party as a good starting point for younger DJs.

The 36-year-old, who has performed at clubs like Avalon and f.Club, said: "Singapore has many budding DJs who need a platform.

"We need such events to showcase their music."

DJ JamzZ also hinted that his set will be a crowd-pleaser, with a good mix of Top 40 hits and electronic dance music.

Another DJ slated to perform is Patrick Lai, 39.

A veteran DJ with over 20 years of experience, he has rubbed shoulders with international musicians like Kenny G and Emil Chau.

But even without any foreign acts at the party, Lai is confident the event will be a raving success.

He said: "The local DJ community is a close-knit one, and we're all friends.

"This will be a very special gig as we don't often get to perform alongside one another.

"We've been talking about it a lot and we're all very excited."

Other DJs spinning for partygoers include DJ Andrew T, DJ Clart and DJ Sha.

DJs aside, local singing duo Jack and Rai will also be at the event to perform their signature acoustic tunes.
