SINGAPORE - South Korean Kim Tae Hyung has the musical prowess to match
This South Korean artist has dreamy eyes, a faraway look and tousled hair, but he is not the star of the latest drama serial nor the lead singer in a K-pop band.
Rather, Kim Tae Hyung is an award-winning pianist who will be performing at the Esplanade Concert Hall with the Korean Symphony Orchestra next month.
When asked about his carefully crafted image in an e-mail interview, he demurs.
"I do not have a stylist, but in general, I think it is not bad to look nice," says the 28-year-old, who is single.
While he has the looks to make classical music fangirls swoon, he also has the musical prowess to match.
At 19, he made his mark in the competitive scene with his international debut at the City Of Porto International Piano Competition in 2004, where he won top prize.
Since then, his career has gone from strength to strength. In 2010, he achieved fifth place at the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in Belgium, which is widely considered one of the most prestigious international events.
In March this year, he also won the 105th annual Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition in England, as well as the competition's Audience Prize.
