She has visited Bangkok regularly over the past 10 years.

But during her latest visit to the Thai capital on May 1, TV personality Quan Yifeng encountered a first: A thief who tried to steal from her bag.

Fortunately, no one was hurt and nothing was stolen.

The incident happened on May 3 at the Platinum Fashion Mall.

Quan, 40, had gone there with her 14-year-old daughter, Kaixin, reported Lianhe Wanbao.

The duo had lunch in Bangkok with local celebrity hairstylist Addy Lee the day before. Lee is Kaixin's godfather.

The mother and daughter were on their way to get a foot massage and were walking through a large crowd when the thief struck, slashing Quan's bag.

Kaixin related the incident on Instagram: "Then suddenly, a lady around the age of 30 holding a big green plastic bag (tried) to push me away from my mom (because i was standing behind her)."

Kaixin said she grabbed her mother's hand and squeezed in front of the woman. At that moment, she saw a hand reaching into her mother's bag, so she quickly snatched the bag and glared at the thief, a different woman who appeared to be in her 40s.

Quan related the incident on her Facebook page: "Thankfully my daughter stuck closely to me.

"Two women - one pushed my daughter away, while the other immediately slashed my bag and put her hand in to feel around."

She described how her daughter had glared fiercely at the thief and held on firmly to the bag before shouting: "Mummy, she is stealing your things!"

The thief then walked away to a shop, pretending to shop for clothes, said Kaixin.
