Rap mogul Knight arrested

LOS ANGELES - Notorious rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight and comedian Micah "Katt" Williams were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stealing a camera from a photographer, the authorities said.

Knight, 49, and Williams, 43, have been charged with robbery, according to the Los Angeles district attorney.

Bail was set at US$1 million (S$1.3 million) for Knight, who founded and runs Black Kapital Records, and who co-founded Death Row Records along with hip-hop music king Dr Dre in the early 1990s.

Williams' bail was set at US$75,000, prosecutor Jackie Lacey said.

She said the men allegedly took the camera from a celebrity photographer on Sept 5 in Beverly Hills.

Knight was arrested in Las Vegas and Williams in Inglewood. The producer, who has a prior conviction for assault with a deadly weapon, faces up to 30 years in jail if convicted.

Williams could face seven years behind bars.

Death Row Records helped launch stars like Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur before it collapsed in 1996, when Knight was jailed for parole violations.
