SINGAPORE - The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will stage its biggest ever show, a 4,000-member concert, on June 28 next year, the group announced today.
The Our People Our Music 2014 concert will be staged as part of the opening celebrations for the newly-built National Stadium, Singapore Sports Hub.
Not only is the SCO gunning for a record in the Singapore book of records, it will also be attempting to break the record for the largest erhu ensemble and the largest Chinese drum ensemble in the Guinness World Records.
SCO said in a statement that the theme for the concert will be 'Our Home, Singapore!'. It will be choreographed by SCO Music Director, Tsung Yeh, with pieces that "showcase the passion and best wishes of the people for Singapore".
It also said that it hopes to inspire greater awareness and appreciation of Chinese culture among fellow Singaporeans through the concert.
A total of 30,000 people are expected to attend the first arts and cultural performance held at the newly-built National Stadium, Singapore Sports Hub, when it opens. Tickets will be available at Sports Hub Tix from January 2014.
Those interested in joining the ensemble may go to the SCO website for participation details and criteria.
