Are the characters in Planes just a rehash of those from Cars? There's no dispute there - it's an annoying fact.
Yet, to be fair to the animation wizards at Disney, Planes comes with the tagline "From above the world of Cars", so if they're all in the same universe, there has to be some similarities right?
Planes is like the unfortunate kid who constantly lives in the shadow of his famous older sibling.
If it had come before Cars, perhaps all the criticism over the lack of creativity may not even exist.
But did you know that the world of Planes was referenced in Cars and its sequel Cars 2?
For instance, British spy car Holley Shiftwell takes to the skies in Cars 2.
Then there's Mater's Tall Tales, a series of cartoons that feature Cars' Mater telling tall tales about his extraordinary adventures.
In them, he even transforms into a stunt driver, complete with rocket launchers, an astronaut and even a plane.
With Disney/Pixar having conquered land and air, we can now await a movie about talking trains - and we're not talking about Thomas the Tank engine.
John Lasseter, the chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, is known to be a railroad guy.
In fact, a movie about trains was mooted before gears were switched to planes.
Said Planes director Klay Hall to The Wall Street Journal: "I had an idea about working on a train movie. John liked that idea.
"And then he called out of the blue one day and said, 'What do you think about planes? I know we have the train thing going, but how about you set that aside and we do something with planes?'"
The Planes sequel, Planes: Fire & Rescue is due next year. Planes is now showing in cinemas.
