SINGAPORE - One of Shakespeare's most remarkable pieces, Hamlet, is set to take centrestage here in Singapore for five nights only from Sept 8 to 12.
Local theatre fans may be thrilled to know that the performances by the famed Shakespeare's Globe Theatre from the United Kingdom will be held at the iconic Capitol Theatre in North Bridge Road, which has been closed to the public for almost 17 years.
This is the first international production to be staged there. The historic Capitol Theatre, formerly known to many as The Grande Dame, has been undergoing renovation to include a hotel and upscale mall. It is set to open next month.
The production is part of a two-year Globe to Globe Hamlet global tour held in conjunction with the playwright's 450th birthday in April 2014. This internationalised version of the famous Shakespearean tragedy is performed by 12 cast members in under three hours.
Globe to Globe Hamlet will be staged in 205 nations across 7 continents before the tour concludes at Hamlet's own Elsinore Castle on April 23, 2016, coinciding with the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death.
Ticket prices start at $88 and are available at Sistic. Visit http://www.aba-productions.com for more information.
