SPH kicks off first of 26 free concerts on Sunday

Music lovers are in for a treat this year, with 26 free concerts to be staged around Singapore.

Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) will launch its free, year-long community concert series, SPH Gift of Music, on Sunday.

Performances will be held at concert halls, shopping malls, parks, heartland areas and the Esplanade.

The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), Singapore Chinese Orchestra and Ding Yi Music Company will be among the groups taking part.

Since its launch a decade ago, SPH Gift of Music has grown and given more local musicians a platform to showcase their talent.

For its 10th anniversary, the series will partner the Orchestra for the Music Makers and the SYC Ensemble Singers.

To kick off SPH Gift of Music, the SSO will perform at Gardens by the Bay on Sunday.

The SSO is also set to perform at the Singapore Botanic Gardens in July to celebrate the 170th anniversary of The Straits Times.

Other highlights of the series include performances by Malay and Indian arts groups.
