SINGAPORE- This award, really, is for the Directioners.
We are not surprised at all that One Direction, the world's biggest English-speaking boy band, squelched the competition - Korea's Big Bang and Exo - in our first-ever Singapore's Fave Boy Band Flame Awards poll.
Why? Fans of the UK quintet are a passionate lot.
When we met them at the local 1D Day carnival at Gardens by the Bay last month - there were shrieks aplenty.
When we met them at a preview screening in August for the 3-D documentary film One Direction: This Is Us - shrieks of delight again. And tears.
(Note: One Direction did not turn up in person for both events.)
So when we called boy band fans to vote for Singapore's most-loved idols, we knew Directioners would pull through.
One Direction got 353 votes, against 292 for Big Bang and 253 for Exo.
Since the boys themselves are, shall we say, a little inaccessible, we got "them" to receive the trophy by proxy through standees sitting in the office of their local record label Sony Music Singapore, whose staff were more than amused and will be keeping the statue on their premises.
After all, the boys had already shown their talent at rallying support back in July when GQ UK magazine ran interviews that suggested some of them were a little, shall we say, frisky.
The responses were so passionate that GQ ran an article titled "The most terrifying responses to our One Direction covers".
Directioners must be truly happy that the group have been named MTV's Stars of 2013, after receiving 40.8 million votes on Twitter.
Who did they edge out? Justin Bieber. Oh, did we just make a few Beliebers angry?
We'll take our chances with them over a Directioner any day.
