The Star and Bloomberg TV to reach wider audience via various platforms

PETALING JAYA - The Star Media Group and Bloomberg TV Malaysia have joined hands to provide business news on platforms covering print, digital, radio and television to reach the widest possible audience.

"It is exciting that a group of like-minded friends are able to work on something to create news that matters to Malaysia's business community," said Star Publications (M) Bhd group managing director and CEO Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai at the MoU signing ceremony at Bloomberg TV Malaysia's broadcast centre in Encorp Strand, Kota Damansara, yesterday.

Bloomberg TV Malaysia chairman Datuk Seri Effendi Norwawi was equally thrilled.

"We are excited today to partner with Malaysia's premier English daily that has the top business section, StarBiz," he said.

"This partnership will not only benefit our team but will deliver great value to the business community here in Malaysia," Effendi added. "We will be offering world-class business news by adhering to the best practices and highest standards from Bloomberg."

Bloomberg TV Malaysia is scheduled to go live on July 7 across all available platforms.

Under the collaboration, journalists from The Star will appear on Bloomberg TV Malaysia via live cross-overs from The Star's studio in Menara Star.

Journalists from both sides will also undergo training at the regional Bloomberg TV headquarters in Hong Kong as well as Bloomberg TV Indonesia in Jakarta.

"The tie-up benefits both sides as journalists from the business desk will have a chance to be exposed on television while Bloomberg TV Malaysia will benefit from our print, digital and radio platforms," said Wong.

For Bloomberg TV Malaysia CEO Michael Chan, the partnership will also "enable advertisers and marketers to benefit from a new platform that combines the best business content from The Star and Bloomberg TV Malaysia".

Also present at the signing were producer and actress Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina, The Star's chief operating officer for content development June H.L. Wong, specialist editor M. Shanmugam, executive editor Brian Martin, actress Sarah Lian, Bloomberg TV Malaysia's managing and assignment editor Anne Edwards, as well as anchors Sophie Kamaruddin and Randy Salim.

The Star journalists present included Fintan Ng, Ng Bei Shan, Zunaira Saieed, Cheryl Poo and Natalie Heng.
