A star-studded week in Singapore

SINGAPORE - There has been no shortage of "star power" in Singapore over the past week, with top actors and actresses, singers and athletes all appearing on these shores.

The star-studded week began last Saturday (Oct 11) with the appearance of football superstar David Beckham, who surprised fans when he was spotted at Marina Bay Sands (MBS).

According to The New Paper, Beckham was in town to shoot a commercial for luxury brand Prada.

And as if one superstar at MBS was not enough, that evening the hotel also hosted the Starhub TVB Awards.

Glamorous Hong Kong A-list actresses stole the limelight, as the beautiful stars, including newly-wed Sharon Chan and former Miss Hong Kong Kate Tsui showed off their enviable figures as they walked down the green carpet.

Then, it was the footballers' turn to steal the spotlight, as the stars of Brazil and Japan rolled into town for their friendly football match on Oct 14.

Football fanatics who packed into the sold-out National Stadium were certainly treated to an unforgettable night, as Brazilian superstar Neymar produced a dazzling four-goal performance to defeat Keisuke Honda's Japan 4-0.

On Oct 17, Taiwanese singer Elva Hsiao and American rocker Chris Daughtry performed at Ion Orchard's 5th anniversary fashion concert.

Hsiao and Daughtry also took part in a charity auction on Oct 16, as the two stars put the finishing touches on a painting from the Singapore Association for Mental Health.

From Oct 20-26, the top eight women's tennis players in the world will compete in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) finals, featuring the likes of Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Eugenie Bouchard and Caroline Wozniacki.

Some of the players have arrived in Singapore early, with Sharapova meeting fans at the launch of her candy line Sugarpova at Robinsons The Heeren on Oct 15, and Bouchard posting photos of her enjoying the MBS infinity pool on Oct 13.

The presence of these big names in Singapore has come just shortly after the Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix weekend last month (Sep 19-21), which featured concerts by booty-shaking diva Jennifer Lopez, UK pop star Robbie Williams, Taiwanese boy band Mayday, and American singer-songwriter John Legend.

And fans won't have to wait long for the next big star to arrive, with the much-anticipated The Elusive Chanteuse Show concert by pop diva Mariah Carey at the National Stadium on Oct 24.
