Terence Cao: I can only be good friends with my daughter's mum

Nearly a year after local actor Terence Cao had his world turned upside down upon discovering he had fathered a daughter with a Shanghainese woman, he has admitted that he was "irresponsible" in the handling of matters.

According to a My Paper report, Cao made the admission in an interview when he said: ""I very much want to maintain a simple life. Currently, I've got a lot of important matters to see to. "I've also got my job which I love and I don't want anything to affect my work. Not to mention I've a daughter to raise as well. "

Of course, I pine for someone who cares about me to be by my side but now, I'm not thinking about all that complications. A lot of things happen because I handled them with an irresponsible attitude."

Cao found himself in the news for the wrong reason in October last year when a 27-year-old Shanghainese woman, known as Miss Shi, flew to Singapore in a bid to get Cao to acknowledge his daughter. She claimed she met Cao at a party in 2010, and that she had a one-night-stand with Cao.

She had also told reporters that she will wait for Cao to patch things up with her for the sake of their daughter but the 45-year-old actor sang a different tune when asked about his view on this.

He said: "I admit my lack of responsibility led to many unhappy things. I hope to give my daughter the best (but) I've told her mother that we can only be good friends."

As for whether he'll bring his daughter over to Singapore for her studies, Cao commented: "There are actually a lot of good kids and schools in China.

"I don't wish to do something that will split both mother and daughter apart and if I bring her over here, her mother will have to come over as well, which may complicate matters."
