TVB awards: Triumphant win for Skies 2
Dressed in a sleek, all-black outfit, veteran actor Michael Miu (left with host Elaine Yiu) was named Classic TVB Character at the StarHub TVB Awards.

Triumph In The Skies 2, TVB's drama about the airline industry, was the biggest winner at the StarHub TVB Awards 2013, sweeping four awards at the event. Besides being voted by fans as My Favourite TVB Drama, it was also voted the Singapore Media's Favourite TVB Drama.

Its leads Myolie Wu and Julian Cheung won for My Favourite TVB Female and Male characters. Cheung played the suave pilot Captain Cool, while Wu played feisty airplane technician Summer.

The drama, which also starred Ron Ng and Kenneth Ma, was a huge ratings magnet in Hong Kong this year. An average of two million people watched each episode, according to TVB's official figures.

The fourth annual awards show was held at Marina Bay Sands Grand Theatre last Saturday night. It was organised by StarHub with the Hong Kong broadcaster, with 10 out of 20 award categories open for public votes this year. The rest were decided by the organisers' internal panel of judges (see other story for full list of winners).

Behind the glitz and glamour of the awards show, backstage was not always a bed of roses for the Hong Kong stars.

After taking the award for Best TVB Female Newcomer, starlet Christine Kuo, 30, entered the media room to a flurry of questions about her obvious weight gain.

The Hong Kong media reported that her weight jumped from 52kg to 68kg, likely due to stress over being labelled as the third party in superstar Aaron Kwok's break-up with model Lynn Hung.

Kuo did not specify the cause for her weight gain to reporters here, but she was open when saying that it was indeed linked to "emotional stress".
