Japanese fashion and music duo are called Asia's hottest pair

Look up Japanese fashion and music duo Amiaya on the Internet and most descriptions of the pair hail them as "Asia's hottest twins".

With their youthful good looks and cutesy appearance, it's easy to see why.

When asked what they think of the label, 25-year-old identical twins Ami and Aya simply giggled politely.

"We're happy and honoured to be called that (but we don't think about it). We just want to spread our Tokyo pop brand of music," said Aya through a translator.

Amiaya are in town to perform at a fashion showcase, Marble Wonderland by Asia Kawaii Way, last Saturday, as part of this year's Anime Festival Asia.

According to Ami, "99.9 per cent" of their fans are female.

"They are usually inspired by how we look and come to our shows looking exactly like us," she said.

When it comes to the boys though, Ami readily admits that her sister is more popular with the opposite sex.

"She knows how to act around boys while I am quieter. She will approach them if she likes them and usually, she is 100 per cent successful," she said, laughing.

"She's the one who will give me advice or introduce me to boys," said Ami.

DEBUT

The twins made their debut at the tender age of 15, when they moved to Tokyo to pursue their dreams of becoming musicians, but dabbled in modelling first.

Last year, they left modelling to pursue a career in music and released their debut mini album Tokyo Pop in January this year.

The twins, who celebrated their birthday yesterday, claim to have pioneered "Tokyo pop".

Ami describes their music as possessing elements of various music subgenres in Japan.

This is only the start for the ambitious duo, who hope to spread their love for music and fashion internationally - but only if they do it together. "We're two in one and cannot be separated now or in the future... even if we fight with each other every day!" said Ami.
