HONG KONG - Once a dream woman of a generation, always a dream woman, it seems.

Vivian Chow, the sweetheart of 1990s Hong Kong pop, stars in her first film in four years, the Giddens Ko-produced romance Cafe. Waiting. Love, and his friends are green with envy, he said last Saturday.

Although his Golden Horse-winning directorial debut, You Are The Apple Of My Eye, was the success story of Taiwanese cinema in 2011, he said his friends were more jealous of his new project, in which he worked with the goddess of his youth, reported Sing Tao Daily.

"When I said I would be a director, my classmates weren't that impressed," said Ko, 35, at the premiere of Cafe. Waiting. Love in Hong Kong.

"Since I worked with Vivian Chow, some people have started to envy me and they've been asking to get her autograph. One of them even said he could die immediately after hugging Vivian Chow."

However, Ko, who has a girlfriend, declared that he had not hugged Chow himself.

"Because life is precious," he quipped.

Chow, 46, plays the proprietress of the cafe in the title of the movie, which is adapted from Ko's novel of the same name.

Taiwanese actresses Megan Lai and Pauline Lan co-star in the film, which is co-produced by Angie Chai, the brains behind megahits from the Taiwanese television series Meteor Garden to the Chinese movie series Tiny Times.

Chow's last two films were 2010's All About Love and 1996's Top Banana Club, according to the movie website IMDb. Filming Cafe. Waiting. Love in Taiwan, she felt like a newcomer again, she said.

If the new movie is a hit, she promised, she would give Ko "something better than a hug".
