K-pop boy band EXO was crowned Korea's best idol group in 2014 despite a series of defections by members.
According to a survey conducted by local entertainment and sports news outlet Joy News 24 from Oct. 16-26, 23 out of 79 idol group members voted that K-pop sensation EXO was the best group in Korea this year.
K-pop girl group Sistar was ranked second with 15 votes on the back of its member Soyou's outstanding performance in the K-pop scene. Sistar was the only girl group that made the top five.
The 6-year-old boy group BEAST ranked No. 3 by racking up eight votes, followed by boy band Block B, which secured six votes. Another boy band, VIXX, came in fifth while MBLAQ and Girls' Generation shared the No. 6 spot.
The results prove EXO's firm standing in the K-pop world although its Chinese members Kris and Luhan departed from the group.
The Chinese idols filed a lawsuit against their label SM Entertainment, demanding the termination of their contracts.
Kris took issue with the tight schedules, unjust distribution of profit and exploitation of basic human rights, while the reason for Luhan's filing was not revealed.
Other survey results show that the best actor among idols is Yim Si-wan of ZE:A, and the idols' most favoured labels in Korea apart from their own are SM and YG Entertainment.
A total of 79 idols of K-pop groups including Beast, VIXX, 4Minute, BtoB, Secret and Teen Top participated in the survey.
