Zhang Ziyi, Fala Chen and other Asian stars take on the Ice Bucket Challenge

Former NBA star Yao Ming took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Saturday at the NBA Yao School in Beijing. Invited by his friends, Yao accepted the challenge - inviting others to pour cold water over himself and recording the whole thing- to raise money and awareness for fighting ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease.

He joins a host of other Asian celebs to raise awareness about the paralysing disease. Other celebs who have taken the challenge include the likes of Zhang Ziyi and Fala Chen.

Videos of the stars pouring ice water over their heads have circulated online.

The idea is for a good cause - these buckets of ice water apparently mimic the full temporary effect of ALS sufferers.

Other prominent figures who have had a bucket of ice dumped over the heads include Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.
