A 24-year-old man who had sex with a 15-year-old girl he got into a relationship with was sentenced to 10 months in jail yesterday.
Security officer Desmond Tan Jun Wei admitted to two of five counts of sexual penetration of a minor at his flat in Jurong West in February last year.
The other three offences committed that month were considered during his sentencing.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Michael Quilindo told the court that Tan and the girl got to know each other through mutual friends in November 2012.
They eventually became boyfriend and girlfriend.
Last February, when the girl went to his home, he asked if they could have sex. She agreed.
The fifth time they had sex was also at his home. This time, when Tan's father came home, the girl quickly left.
They broke up after that. She told her school counsellor about what happened with Tan.
Her mother was informed and the victim made a police report saying she was "raped" on March 1 last year .
Tan's lawyer Patrick Fernandez said his client had not planned to seduce the victim for sexual exploitation.
And the age disparity between them was not particularly wide, he added.
Tan, who is out on $15,000 bail, was allowed to defer his sentence until April 24.
He could have been jailed for up to 10 years and/or fined on each charge
