10 more Community Clubs to screen World Cup matches 'live'

SINGAPORE - The People's Association (PA), with the support of Singapore Pools and SingTel, will be screening World Cup 2014 matches 'live' at 10 more Community Clubs (CCs), bringing the total number of CCs to 40.

The additional 10 CCs are Anchorvale, Henderson, Punggol 21, Pasir Ris East, Zhenghua, Canberra, Potong Pasir, Kampong Ubi, Bukit Batok East and West Coast. They will make it more convenient for residents to watch the World Cup matches with family, friends and neighbours near their home. All 40 CCs will simultaneously screen the 4am opening match on Friday, June 13. The CCs will also show a selection of the 64 matches from June 13 to July 14.

PA Group Director Ms Jeanie Tan said: "We are very happy to know that more residents can now get to enjoy World Cup 2014 and soak up the excitement of the matches together with their family members, friends and neighbours. The Grassroots Leaders and the Community Centre staff are all gearing up to bring the World Cup to our residents. We hope that the residents get to make more friends who share the same passion in football at the CC."

Residents also stand to win exciting prizes by participating in fringe activities such as football quizzes and contests organised by the CCs. At Jurong Green CC, residents can take part in foosball (table football) and Wii Sports challenges, take photos with friends and neighbours at instant photo booths or attend movie screenings before the World Cup matches.

Majority of the matches will be screened indoors in multi-purpose halls, auditoriums or theatrettes. Grassroots volunteers will take steps to minimise noise so that nearby residents are not inconvenienced. Football fans will also be reminded to be considerate to their neighbours and keep their voices down when they leave the CCs after the matches.
