SINGAPORE - After receiving a report that the war monument, the Cenotaph, at Connaught Drive was vandalised in April this year, it took police officers from the Central Police Division the next 3 days to establish the vandal's identity.

The police officers managed to locate 2 eye-witnesses through CTV footage retrieved  from the scene, the police officers on the case retrieved vital information on the suspect.

Working with support of Police Intelligence Department (PID) and Public Transport Security Command (TRANSCOM), the breakthrough came when on of the officers managed to identify the accused.

The suspect was arrested the next day and further investigations led him to admit to his misdeed.

In an earlier and separate incident in March, the SCDF arrived at the Tanato Shipyard to find 4 ships on fire. One eventually sank, and the SCDF has to conduct search and rescue on tugboats in confined spaces and low visibilty.

The fire was the biggest and most challenging for the Marine Command Team since the SCDF took over the marine fire fighting function from Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore in 2012, taking 90 minutes for the fire to be put out.

For these and other successful Home Team operations, officers from 11 Home Team agencies and its partners will be presented with the Minister for Home Affairs Operational Excellence Awards.

This is in recognition of their professionalism and proficiency while contributing to the success of 101 Home Team operations.

These operations took place between June 2012 and July 2013.

The agencies represented are Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Singapore Police Force (SPF), Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Singapore Prison Service (SPS), Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB), Singapore Corporation of Rehabilitative  Enterprises (SCORE), Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), Ministry of Manpower (MOM), Health Sciences Authority (HSA) and Singapore Customs.

Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, will grace the ceremony at the Home Team Academy.
